Path of Exile 3.24: A Guide to Conquering the Elder and His Guardians

Apr-11-2024 PST Category: path of exile

Welcome to this Path of Exile 3.24 guide! In this series, we will be diving into the mechanics of the Elder, his Guardians, and how to overcome these formidable foes. The Elder is a powerful entity in the game that expands his influence throughout the Atlas, a map-based system. By completing or killing over 60% of the monsters in Shaper-influenced maps, represented by celestial star backgrounds, the Elder can spawn on a random map base along with his four Guardians.

The level and tier of these encounters are determined by the map base on which the Elder spawns. Regardless of the map base, the Elder and his Guardians will be the level of the map zone on which the Elder spawns. The tier and drops of the encounters are determined by the major tier coloring system on the maps, which categorizes them into white, yellow, and red difficulties.

Each Guardian has a different number of phases based on the tier. White-tier Guardians have one phase, yellow-tier Guardians have two phases with a breakpoint at 50% Guardian life, and red-tier Guardians have three phases with breakpoints at 66% and 33% Guardian life.

To encounter the Guardians, you simply need to enter the map base where they spawn and make your way to the boss. The map can be of any rarity and have any modifiers as they do not apply to the Elder or the Guardian arenas. Once you defeat the boss, the Elder will emerge from a void portal, and you can consume his power and proceed to the Guardian arena.

Each Guardian has different environmental mechanics in their arenas. These mechanics include areas of ground that deal damage over time, such as exploding pods, swirling tornadoes, degeneration balls, or other POE Items. While some mechanics are specific to certain arenas and phases, most of them should be avoided entirely for safety.

For defenses against the Elder and his Guardians, it is important to have a decent health pool. The recommended health pool varies depending on the tier of the encounter. Additionally, having sustainable defenses such as leech or regeneration and a fast movement skill to avoid boss mechanics are crucial. However, these encounters are generally easier and more accessible than Shaper Guardians, so extensive defense and offense setups are not necessary.

In terms of offense, focus on having strong single-target damage. If you can comfortably kill the highest level boss of the corresponding map tier, you should have no problem with the Elder Guardians. These encounters are not timed, allowing you to take your time and deal damage without rushing.

Each Guardian has its unique set of moves and mechanics. The Constrictor, for example, is a hybrid ranged and melee Guardian who deals physical damage and inflicts powerful poisons. The Enslaver also has hybrid ranged and melee attacks, with deadly ignites from his fire damage. The Eradicator is a ranged-based Guardian that deals pure lightning damage and can apply shock. Each Guardian has specific arena environments and moves to watch out for, which require careful avoidance and mitigation.

In conclusion, facing the Elder and his Guardians in Path of Exile is a challenging but rewarding experience. With the right preparations and understanding of their mechanics, you can overcome these formidable foes. Remember to focus on defenses, strong single-target damage, and awareness of environmental mechanics to emerge victorious. Good luck on your journey!
