OSRS: Best Tasks to Block
Reaching 99 Slayer in OSRS is a monumental achievement, and while it's not a task you typically grind out, it's often a product of training your combat skills. Slayer can be tedious, and to make the journey smoother, blocking undesirable tasks is an effective way to optimize your training experience.
Here's a guide on the best tasks to block, ensuring a more efficient Slayer grind.
Ins and Outs of the Block List
You start with five task slots to block, but as you progress, you'll unlock additional slots by completing specific milestones. You get a sixth slot at 300 Quest Points and a seventh upon completing the Lumbridge Elite Diary. By the time you complete these, you should be prioritizing tasks that will give you the best XP and rewards.
Best Slayer Tasks to Block
Hellhounds
Slayer Task Weight: 10
Hellhounds are infamous for being slow XP and low rewards. While they can drop useful OSRS items like the Primordial Crystal, their poor drop rate and lack of high-reward loot make them a suboptimal task. Their high Slayer Task weight also means they'll pop up frequently, wasting your valuable Slayer points.
Recommendation: Block Hellhounds to focus on more efficient tasks. They're best avoided if you're aiming for fast XP.
Cave Krakens
Slayer Task Weight: 9
Cave Krakens are locked behind a specific method of attack-Magic (like the Trident of the Swamp). They're slow to kill and don't have a very rewarding loot table, which makes them inefficient for fast XP gains.
Recommendation: Block Cave Krakens to avoid wasting time on a single-target monster that doesn't provide much profit or XP.
Black Dragons
Slayer Task Weight: 9
Black Dragons have high Hitpoints and require special gear like the Anti-Dragonfire Shield or Antifire Potions for safe kills. To maximize your Slayer XP, you need to use the Dragon Hunter Lance, which is expensive and not ideal for solo Slayer sessions.
Recommendation: Block Black Dragons, as they're a slow, expensive kill with low overall profit. Their task length is also short (10-20 kills), which doesn't align with the efficiency we're aiming for.
Greater Demons & Black Demons
Slayer Task Weight: 9 & 8
These demons are high-weight, single-target monsters with low drops, making them inefficient for XP farming. Moreover, the kill count is large (130-200), which can make them tedious and a pain to fight, especially if they're crowded by other players.
Recommendation: Block both Greater Demons and Black Demons to avoid long, unprofitable tasks with minimal XP reward.
Spiritual Creatures
Slayer Task Weight: 7
Spiritual Creatures in the God Wars Dungeon are notorious for being difficult to access, as players must wear specific God Wars Dungeon gear to avoid constant aggression from other creatures. Additionally, their loot is subpar and doesn't justify the effort involved.
Recommendation: Block Spiritual Creatures, especially if you don't need Dragon Boots or any other niche drops they offer.
Steel Dragons
Slayer Task Weight: 7
Steel Dragons have high Hitpoints, and strong dragonfire attacks, and require you to use Protect from Melee and Piety during the fight. They also don't drop much useful loot and can take quite a bit of time to kill.
Recommendation: Block Steel Dragons for a much more efficient Slayer grind. Metal dragons can be replaced with others like Iron Dragons or Mithril Dragons, which are quicker and yield better XP.
Alternative Methods for Efficient Slayer
By blocking inefficient tasks, you'll be able to focus on Slayer monsters that provide high XP rates and potentially lucrative drops. Some great tasks to prioritize instead include:
Abyssal Demons - Consistently high XP with valuable drops like Abyssal Whips.
Nechryaels - High XP rate and useful drops such as Rune items and Lunar staff parts.
Dust Devils - Great XP and Dragon Chainbody drop.
Skeletal Wyverns - They provide high XP, excellent drops like Dragon Bones, and decent GP.
Conclusion
Blocking certain Slayer tasks in OSRS is essential for making the grind to 99 Slayer more efficient and enjoyable. By eliminating time-wasting monsters like Hellhounds, Cave Krakens, and Black Dragons, you can maximize your XP gains and focus on high-reward tasks. Additionally, consider buying OSRS Gold and OSRS items to enhance your Slayer journey and progress even faster.
May your Slayer tasks be swift, and your drops plentiful!
